This session focuses on how periods of change, particularly school transitions, can affect young people, and how parents can offer steady, practical support.

Transitions can bring uncertainty, even when they’re positive. New environments, routines and expectations can feel unsettling, so it helps to see change as a process rather than a single moment. Preparing in advance, keeping communication open, and maintaining some familiar routines can make a real difference.

We talk about the common worries, from friendships to workload and the importance of acknowledging these, while helping your teen build confidence and independence. Small, consistent steps and simple conversations at home can help build the foundations of independence safely.

For young people with SEND, transitions often need a bit more planning and collaboration, with earlier preparation and closer communication between home and school to ensure the right support is in place.

The session will help you understand that with understanding, preparation and the right support, change can be a great opportunity for growth, confidence and resilience.
