How it works

Join me for a 45 minute online Parent Open Evening where I’ll walk you through the A-Level Chemistry Exam Technique Programme, explain how the support works, and answer common parent questions before applications move forward.

In the session, I’ll cover:

• Why capable A-Level Chemistry students still lose marks

• The evidence supporting the efficacy of small group and 1:1 tuition

• How the programme helps students improve exam technique, confidence and consistency

• The difference between the Essential and Premium options

• How the application, diagnostic task and taster class work

• What kind of student the programme is — and is not — best suited for

Who it’s for

Ideal if you’re the parent of a student beginning Year 12 or Year 13 who:

• Is (or will be) studying OCR A-Level Chemistry

• Has the potential to do well but may be losing marks in assessments

• Needs more structure, accountability and regular practice

• Wants to improve timing, precision and past-paper performance

• Is aiming for an A or A*, or wants to move beyond a B/C plateau

• Would benefit from small-group support, with the option of individual 1:1 help

Small caveat:

  • **This is not a general homework club or last-minute revision crash course. **It is a structured exam technique programme for students who are ready to engage properly.

What you’ll leave with

By the end of the Parent Open Evening, you’ll understand:

• How every session in the Chemistry Programme is structured

• Whether Essential or Premium is likely to suit your child better

• How exam technique is built into every session

• How students are selected and grouped

• What happens after you apply

• Whether the programme is likely to be the right next step for your child

You’ll also have a chance to ask questions in the live Q&A before deciding whether to complete the application form.

Can’t attend live?

Register anyway.

You’ll receive replay access for up to 5 days after the event, so you can watch at a time that suits you.

I’d still recommend attending live if you can, especially if you have specific questions about your child’s situation.

About your tutor

I’m Ope, an A-Level Chemistry tutor with 15+ years of tutoring experience. I specialise in helping students improve their exam technique, timing and past-paper performance, not just by doing “more revision”, but by learning how to approach questions more precisely.

I hold a First Class degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry, an MSc in Green Chemistry, and I’m also an examiner. My teaching is especially focused on OCR A-Level Chemistry and the patterns students repeatedly struggle with in exam papers.

FAQs

Is this for parents or students?

This session is mainly for parents. Students are welcome to sit in if they would find it helpful, but the focus will be on helping parents understand the programme, the application process and whether it could be the right fit to support their child's learning.

Will I be expected to sign up for the Programme during the session?

No. The purpose of the session is to help you make an informed decision. If the programme feels suitable, the next step will be to complete the application form.

What happens after the Open Evening?

If you feel the programme could be right for your child, you’ll be invited to complete the application form. Suitable students will then be sent a diagnostic Chemistry task to complete before being invited to a taster class.

Is the programme only for OCR students?

The programme is designed specifically around OCR A-Level Chemistry, so it is best suited to students studying the OCR specification.

My child hasn’t started A-Level yet and we don’t know their exam board for Chemistry. Can I still register?

Yes. If your child is starting A-Level Chemistry soon and you’re still waiting for confirmation from their school, you’re welcome to register for the Parent Open Evening.

The programme is designed around OCR A-Level Chemistry, so it will be most suitable once OCR is confirmed. However, the session will still help you understand what strong A-Level Chemistry support looks like, how exam technique differs from GCSE, and what to look for when choosing the right support for your child. If your child is not doing OCR Chemistry, the Chemistry Programme may not be the best fit, but you are still welcome to complete the application form and note your exam board. If 1:1 support would be more appropriate, I’ll let you know after reviewing the details.

What if I’m not sure whether my child needs Essential or Premium?

That’s exactly the kind of thing the Open Evening will help clarify. Essential is group-only support. Premium includes the group programme plus individual 1:1 support, resource access and more personalised feedback.

Will there be a replay?

Yes. If you register, you’ll receive replay access for up to 5 days after the event.

A-Level Chemistry Tutor and Course Creator

Hi, I'm Ope!

I’m an online Chemistry tutor with over 15 years of experience and a two-time Russell Group graduate and scholar. I create resources to empower A-Level Chemistry students doing the OCR spec with the right exam techniques to boost their confidence, and in turn excel in the exams.

Not only am I hugely passionate about my subject, I know just how to chip away at complex topics so that are simpler and more manageable.

My sessions are heavily exam-focused as when students have an insight into the examiner’s methods, they can not only study smarter, but manage their time more wisely in the exam and do well.
