Bullying can be difficult for parents to deal with, particularly when we may not know it is happening. One in five pupils in Years 7 to 13 say they have been bullied in the past year, with a similar number saying they have been bullied by pupils at their school. What starts as teasing or ‘banter’, friendship problems or exclusion can happen in or outside school, face to face or online, and it can be hard to know when something has crossed the line into bullying and is starting to cause real distress.

While our immediate concern may be for the young person being targeted, our own teenager could be caught up in bullying in a different way. They may be the one causing harm, joining in, or standing by and watching it happen. This November, Kat Fuller, Parent Support Manager at Kidscape, joins us to look at bullying from all sides, what parents need to look out for, when and how to step in, and how we can help teenagers #BreakTheSilence.
