Matthew worked as a director, senior consultant, and analyst at four risk and investigations companies: The Risk Advisory Group, Livingstone, Veracity and FTI. He has led projects in various global regions and co-developed a security risk analysis platform.
Jonathan Armstrong
Partner, Punter Southall Law
Jonathan is an experienced lawyer at Punter Southall Law with a concentration on compliance & technology. He is also a Professor at Fordham Law School teaching modules on AI and a Director of board training company L-EV8.
Jonathan is regarded as an acknowledged expert in AI. He served on the New York State Bar Association’s AI Task Force looking at the impact of AI on law and regulation. The Task Force produced one of the first comprehensive reports on AI risk in April 2024. He now sits on the NYSBA AI & Emerging Technologies Committee to continue that work. Jonathan also sits on the Law Society AI Group.
Jonathan has handled legal matters in more than 60 countries covering a wide range of compliance issues. Clients include Fortune 250 organisations and household names in manufacturing, technology, healthcare, luxury goods, automotive, construction and financial services. Jonathan and his team have developed an innovative approach to EU AI Act risk assessment and regularly advise on the legal and ethical aspects of AI development.
Jonathan is co-author of the textbook on technology law, Managing Risk: Technology & Communications. In addition to being a lawyer, Jonathan is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Marketing. He has spoken at conferences in the US, Japan, Canada, China, Brazil, Singapore, Vietnam, Mexico, South Korea, the Middle East and across Europe.
Jonathan qualified as a lawyer in 1991 & has focused on technology and risk and governance matters for more than 30 years. He has been selected as one of the Thomson Reuters stand-out lawyers for 2025 - an honour bestowed on him every year since the survey began. Jonathan has been ranked as the 14th most influential figure in data security worldwide. Jonathan is listed as a Super Lawyer & has been listed in Legal Experts since 2002. Jonathan’s work is also featured in this year’s Legal 500.
