How can companies use certified biomethane to reduce Scope 1 emissions?

The rules around voluntary emissions reporting are shifting, and biomethane is at the centre of it.

For years, companies seeking to decarbonise their gaseous fuel consumption had limited options under voluntary accounting frameworks. Biomethane purchased within chain-of-custody certification schemes is already well-established in compliance markets, but the GHG Protocol had not recognised it for voluntary Scope 1 claims, leaving sustainability teams in a difficult position.

That is now changing. The publication of the GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Standard (LSR v1.0, January 2026), together with the draft SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2.0 and the GHGP Actions and Market Instruments White Paper, signals a meaningful shift in how certified biomethane can be used in corporate emissions accounting.

This webinar brings together GO2 Markets, the World Biogas Association, and Evonik to unpack what these developments mean in practice, and what companies should do next.

In this 60-minute session, speakers will cover:

  • Biomethane in compliance markets: how ISCC-certified biomethane is already being used within EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime frameworks
  • The evolving GHG Protocol landscape: what changed in the new LSR, and why it opens the door to voluntary Scope 1 and Scope 3 claims
  • Industry advocacy and policy momentum: the role of the "Let Green Gas Count" initiative and what comes next for biomethane recognition
  • **Corporate perspectives: **how companies are approaching biomethane procurement, reporting, and integrity considerations today

This session is ideal for corporate sustainability teams, compliance managers, and procurement professionals looking to understand how certified biomethane fits into their decarbonisation strategy.

Join us to explore one of the most significant developments in voluntary carbon accounting, and what it means for your business.

Green Gas Lead @ GO2 Markets

For over five years, Lisa has specialized in green gas—particularly biomethane—at Go2 Markets. Her deep understanding of this dynamic and complex market enables her to effectively connect producers with end users across Europe.

With the implementation of ETS II approaching in 2027, many Go2 clients are now actively seeking to secure biomethane volumes as part of their decarbonization strategies.

This raises several important questions: In which countries can biomethane be used to reduce or avoid EUA (EU Emissions Allowance) costs? What quality standards must be met to ensure compliance? Who are the relevant regulatory authorities, and what key considerations must clients be aware of when entering these markets?
