In this session we will start right back at the beginning of the life of a transformer, in the factory, where PD testing is mandatory, continuing through its implementation in the field and throughout its active service life. Marco will explain how PD events begin and evolve during the lifecycle of the transformer. We will then look at the key challenges that exist with monitoring PD and the range of influencing factors that impact the ability to understand and analyze PD events clearly.


Application of PD monitoring in transformers

A circuit breaker is vital to protecting the integrity of the electrical grid; when everything else fails the circuit breaker is there to protect you. A breaker which is either slow or fails to operate can have severe implications including safety risk, equipment damage and asset or network downtime.

Considering the severity of circuit breaker failure, understanding the causes, effects, and how to prevent them is critical to ensuring the breaker can operate and isolate faults when they occur.

In this one-hour session we start with the circuit breaker looking at how various stresses can result in failure and the serious consequences this can have on both safety for personnel and the network. Stefano will then break down the standard testing procedures before spotlighting the First Trip Profiling method for testing the true condition of a circuit breaker, including a demonstration of our PROFILE P3.
